Something New
I've just added DirectX 5 DirectInput to MJ97 to support joystick and gamepad play and even force feedback! So if you
want to get some more use out of that expensive force feedback joystick you just bought, here's one solution. Please read the
notes below before downloading this joystick-compatible version of MJ97!!!
Notes
- This version of MJ97 requires DirectX 5. If you don't have it, you must get it from Microsoft's web site. If you need
tech support for installing or using DrectX 5, you must contact Microsoft.
- Unless you want joystick or gamepad support, don't bother downloading this new version. It only adds such support. It
does not have any other enhancements.
- This file is a ZIP file of MJ97.EXE only. You must unzip it and replace your current MJ97.EXE with this one. You need
to have the complete MJ97 installed before adding this. You can download it from the link above.
- As mentioned, this is a ZIP file. You're expected to have an unzipping utility, to be able to use it, and to be able to copy
the new MJ97.EXE file to where it belongs. An automatic install or keystroke-by-keystroke instructions are not
provided.
- This version of MJ is still in development. While it seems to work fine, I haven't tested it with a large number of
joysticks or gamepads. If it works or doesn't work with your particular device, I'd be most interested in hearing about
it.
- This version of MJ97 is available only from here at my WWW site. If you register MJ97 and request a disk, you'll
receive the non-DirectX version. This one won't be available on disk until I'm convinced that a reasonable enough
number of people have or are willing to get DirectX to make this a real new version. Until then, keep checking here for
upgrades to the DirectX version.
- A new help file is not included. However, joystick, game pad, and force feedback support is turned on or off by new
entries in the Preferences menu. For now, only selecting / deselecting tiles with the fire button is supported. An
upcoming new release will let you add other functions to other game controller buttons.
You can download MJ97 DirectX from here.
